Find out why franchising might be a good idea if you want to work flexibly, for yourself:
La Jolie Ronde has been teaching and inspiring children to learn and love languages for 40 years. We teach children from birth to 12 years old (Early Years and Primary).
We offer children the opportunity to excel and enjoy a fun and positive approach to language learning, through our award-winning programmes and clubs. Children gain that head start and confidence for when they approach languages at primary and secondary school.
Our programme is centred around learning French and Spanish in a fun and uninhibited way. Topics are covered that children are already familiar through enjoyable songs, games, stories, role plays and other activities in a positive and supportive learning environment. Each child also receives an accompanying activity book plus access to our media app to enable them to have fun practising songs at home whilst giving parents, plus other family members, the opportunity to have a go themselves.
The programme is progressive so children move on to the next book in the programme year on year.
French and Spanish classes are taught face-to-face in schools (school clubs), in nursery settings and in community venues e.g. village halls, community centres, some soft play areas where there is a room etc.
They are held at various times of the day at primary age but usually before school, during lunchtime, after school and on a weekend. Nursery classes can be taught during the school day to maximise time and earning potential of the setting.
Some of our network offer online classes too which are either one-to-one/private or in groups; home schooling is another avenue stream and is becoming more popular particularly for online.
Our French and Spanish clubs/classes are delivered weekly via our network of fluent French and Spanish speakers (Licensees). We currently have around 300 Licensees – 100 of whom have been with us for over 10 years, some for 15 or 20 years, as well as some for 25 years. One will have been with us for 32 years next year.
When you join La Jolie Ronde, we are with you from day one. As well as ongoing support from Head Office, you will also have a one-to-one mentor throughout your time with us.
We are committed to providing exceptional training and ongoing support at no additional cost. We want you to succeed and offer support and guidance in helping to make your business a success, plus give you the skills and confidence you need to get started.

Working Mum Kate Speirs from Harpenden talks about her working week
Hours of Work: 2 and a bit days per week, school hours, term time
Family: 3 daughters aged 6, 4 and 2.
How often do you work?
I work between 10am and 4pm on a Monday, starting with a pre-school in the morning, primary school at lunchtime and back to the pre-school again in the afternoon. On Tuesday and Wednesday I teach lunchtime classes at schools and pre-school class on Friday afternoons.
The only other work involved is preparing for my classes (mainly on a Sunday afternoon/evening) and I catch up on admin in the evenings when the girls are in bed!
How much did your La Jolie Ronde Franchise cost you?
It cost £600 (inc. vat) and the only other thing I had to purchase was a bond of £150 which is fully refundable.
What did that investment buy?
A really comprehensive bundle of things! A year’s teaching license; public liability insurance to cover all my classes; training on the methodology with a certificate on completion and unlimited access to the support team at head office; a taster session pack; a full set of course materials and lesson plans including flashcards; a huge marketing pack crammed with ideas and suggestions on how to launch and grow your business, with leaflets, posters and sample letters to send to schools, parents and the press; advertising on the La Jolie Ronde website; my own personal e-mail address. And most importantly, the use of the La Jolie Ronde name which I have found to be a real door opener with schools. It is a well recognised and respected organisation.
Do you get good support and training from the La Jolie Ronde Head Office?
Yes I must say the support is excellent. I know I can call anytime and speak to one of the team. At the annual regional meetings I get to mingle with other Licensees and we share teaching methods and ideas. These training sessions cover topics such as behaviour management, how to introduce role play etc. The team at Head Office also update us on what’s new and is being planned for the future.
As well as the head office team, we have the support of a regional manager which is really helpful to share ideas in your own region.
Do you advertise your classes?
I advertise in some local directories but I find it is much more effective to use the promotional leaflets and flyers supplied by La Jolie Ronde and put them up at local playgroups and church halls. You also can’t beat getting schools or playgroups to put a note in their newsletters or in the children’s bookbags to advertise classes.
What is the best thing about La Jolie Ronde for you? Why are they different?
The quality of the teaching materials is excellent the songs and rhymes are great fun and the kids love them. The class plans work really well and the supporting materials such as flash cards, activity books and CDs really give that little bit extra that other classes don’t seem to offer.
It also fits perfectly with my lifestyle. I can do as few or as many classes as I want and I can fit them into the school day.
Would you recommend becoming a La Jolie Ronde Licensee to other mums?
Absolutely. It is great fun and very rewarding and fits very well with being a Mum too. The kids just love learning languages and it is so rewarding to see them just soak it up!

Since launching workingmums.co.uk 18 years ago, followed by workingdads.co.uk and workingwise.co.uk, WM People has built a trusted platform for women, parents, and over 50s.
Over the years, we have published jobs from thousands of public and private sector employers across multiple industries, registered almost 800,000 candidates, and generated almost 2.5 million job applications. Beyond job opportunities, we have published more than 13,000 articles that offer guidance, advice, and support through our editorial content and online events, addressing the unique challenges faced by these critical talent populations.
For employers of all sizes and industries, we have provided access to an incredible pool of talent—experienced women, parents, and those over 50—while offering a platform to authentically showcase their employer brand. Through our research we have intentionally shone a spotlight on the barriers these groups encounter both in finding employment and navigating workplace environments. From the difficulties of returning to work after a career break, discrimination in the hiring process, to the gender pension gap, our work has helped bring these issues to the forefront, driven meaningful conversations and suggested practical approaches to improvement for everyone.
We have championed best practice in areas including flexible working, supporting returners, career progression for women, and attracting, recruiting, and retaining workers over 50. This effort has been reinforced by 14 years of annual Top Employer Awards, and accompanying, detailed Best Practice Reports, as well as our employer-focused roundtables and National Older Workers Week.
Throughout our journey, we have had to innovate and adjust our business models and strategies to keep pace with a constantly evolving marketplace. As a small business, we have grown and adapted, leveraging our websites, and expanding our reach through social media, all while navigating significant economic changes, including two recessions and the pandemic.
However, since COVID-19, the landscape is shifting more rapidly than ever before and as a result of this and other changing economic circumstances we have had to take the incredibly difficult decision to close the business. We know there is still such a need for what we do and we hope others will build on what we have achieved. We also hope in the future to be able to explore other avenues to continue to bring diversity in employment to the forefront of recruitment and HR.
We are immensely proud of what we have achieved over the last 18 years as trailblazers and pioneers, and we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of all our stakeholders.
Together, we have made a lasting impact on thousands of lives, and have shaped innovative policies and practices in diversity, equity, inclusion, and flexible working across the UK.
