Vanquis Banking Group

Who are Vanquis?

We help people who are often excluded by mainstream banks take control of their financial situation. Whether they’re new to credit or need a hand rebuilding their credit file to manage life better, we join our customers on their journey to better credit by providing them with opportunities to access to credit where it may otherwise not be available. We open the door to more affordable borrowing, and we lead the way towards more effective money management.

Welcome to Vanquis Banking Group!

As a working father, you want a job that not only values your skills and experience but also understands your unique needs. At Vanquis Banking Group, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment where you can thrive both professionally and personally.

Founded in 1880, Vanquis Banking Group has a long and proud history of helping people access finance and goods who couldn’t from traditional lenders. Today, we are a FTSE 250 company with around 1.6 million customers, and we remain dedicated to our core mission of putting customers on a path to a better everyday life.

We are a unified group made up of two brands: Vanquis and Moneybarn. While they offer different products and services, they share our common purpose and customer-centric values at the heart of our group. We know that our customers are real people with varied life experiences, and we design everything from our products to our customer experience with this in mind.

At Vanquis, we offer credit cards and personal loans designed to help customers improve their credit score and build a better financial future. Our online and app-based accounts provide modern money management solutions that make it easy for our customers to manage their finances.

Meanwhile, Moneybarn provides vehicle finance for those who need a reliable car, van, or motorbike to get where they want to be. We are proud to have won several awards for our service and approach, including ‘Sub-Prime Lender of the Year’ and ‘Independent Finance Provider of the Year’ at the Motor Finance Europe Awards 2021, and ‘Responsible Lender of the Year’ at the Credit Awards 2022.

But we know that none of this would be possible without our amazing colleagues. That’s why we invest in professional development, offer flexible working, and provide a variety of tools to support wellbeing. We value our colleagues’ feedback and ideas; our colleague forums, Inclusion affinity groups and peer circles provide a judgment-free space where everyone can be heard.

We are proud to have won the Company Culture Lotus Award for several years running, and we are constantly striving to improve the way we look after our people. We believe that by creating a more inclusive culture and a diverse group of colleagues, we can better support our customers and each other.

We are an equal opportunities employer, and we welcome people from all backgrounds to join our team. We believe in providing all the extra support and reasonable adjustments needed to make our application and interview process accessible to everyone. We also have many colleagues who choose to work flexibly, and we are happy to talk to you about how we can accommodate your preferences. We’ve also signed up to the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme for employers too!

At Vanquis Banking Group, we are committed to helping you build a better future, both for yourself and for our customers. Join us today and see what we can achieve together.

Family Friendly policies

We know family time is important and we want all colleagues to feel supported in taking the time off that they need during significant life events such as raising a family. Our Family Friendly policy is designed to support prospective parents through all aspects of fertility treatment,

pregnancy or adoption (including surrogacy). We have a range of different options available and a colleague policy that sets out your rights and ensure a fair and consistent approach.

Flexible Working Policies

The office-based nine-to-five isn’t the only working pattern that gets the job done anymore. Giving people options to work flexibly in a way that balances business needs with individual circumstances benefits everyone. It helps colleagues achieve a healthy work-life balance. Work-life balance isn’t just about clocking off on time and never thinking about your job while away from your desk. It’s about managing personal circumstances around the demands of our roles. These circumstances can include caring responsibilities, further learning and disabilities; the management of which can all be significantly improved through working flexibility.

Our Policy on Hybrid Working We recognise the value and benefits of hybrid working for some of our colleagues, where colleagues can split their time between the office and home. Wherever possible, we want to support you to find the right balance between home and office working that works for both you and the business and this can be agreed with your manager.

Introducing The Vanquis Way

Rather than have traditional values and behaviours, we have created The Vanquis Way to guide us in the decisions we make and remind us, what’s important when we work with one another, our customers and our communities. It’s easy to remember and to uphold because it’s just our way of working, and it’s about the getting the job done the best way we can.

Our people are essential to our success, so we’re determined to create the right culture and working environment to make sure that everyone can be at their best

Case Studies

Daniel Medcalf

Daniel Medcalf with his daughter

How long have you been with the employer? – I’ve been at Vanquis for coming up to 8 years.

What attracted you to the brand? – I knew a number of colleagues that joined Vanquis at a similar time to I did, they all talked about the opportunities for progression and the great culture and this is what pushed me at the time to seek out an opportunity with the business.

What hours do you work? – I worked a condensed pattern of 08:00 to 18:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and, 08:00 to 17:30 on Friday.

How many children do you have and what are their ages? – I have one Daughter who is just over two years old.

What is your favourite thing about being a parent? – I love seeing Isla’s growth and development, watching her pick up new things and slowly become her own little person is an amazing journey to be a part of. One of my favourite’s is when she all of a sudden comes out with a new word I never knew she was able to use, always brings a smile to my face.

What are the major benefits of working for Vanquis in terms of family support? – I have found Vanquis to be really flexible in terms of allowing me to maximise my work-life balance. Not just with my hours but anything such as appointments or even the scope of the paternity leave I secured, all of it helps take a lot of the day to day stresses out of the equation.

What difference does this make to you? – Primarily it has allowed me to build an amazing bond with my daughter. I’m well aware I get to see her and spend time with her a lot more than most working Dad’s can and I can’t express how grateful I have been for this. These are memories I’m going to have forever and the chance to have made them in the first place means so much to me.

What are your career goals and how does your employer support you to achieve them? – Where I’ve recently taken on a new role my focus is very much on learning the in’s and out’s of that at the moment but I have always been very focused on progression and working my way up in the business. I have never found this has been impacted or stifled by the balance I’ve struck.

Would you recommend them to a friend and why? – I would absolutely recommend a flexible approach to working for anyone who wants to start a family and it suits their setup. You’ll never get this time and chance again to spend time with your children as they grow up, why wouldn’t you want to take that opportunity.
