We work as a portfolio team across different locations rather than a lab - we're remediating lots of risks, sorting out compliance and engaging many teams to help understand the best engineering solutions. This includes using technology to explain how long-term financial planning can contribute to people's lives; to give people access to information about their financial wellbeing; and to connect with their adviser when it's convenient for the client.

We have a complex portfolio valued at over £30m to improve compliance and address risks across our diverse and complex I&W estate.

About the role

We are Insurance & Wealth Transformation and we're on a journey to create an excellent experience for our customers and support them throughout their financial lives, with clear, straightforward customer journeys and resilient administration platforms.

We're looking for an Engineering Lead/ Technical Product Owner who will support the Technical Remediation and Modernisation (TRAM) team, part of Insurance & Wealth Engineering, in driving forward the Technical Modernisation and Simplification work, outwardly influencing the business stakeholders in making the right decisions that will support our I&W roadmap.

Core purpose of the role

Our Technical Remediation and Modernisation (TRAM) team within Insurance and Wealth Transformation are helping deliver technology upgrades, service improvements and risk reduction initiatives that will enhance our colleague & customer experience.

We're looking for the following essential experience:

As part of the TRAM leadership team, set the strategic direction for engineering delivery within our teams

  • Provide effective leadership and management to a multi-discipline team, taking accountability for all delivery and operational activities
  • Lead a culture of continual improvement, using Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to focus and demonstrate progress
  • Provide leadership and liaise with your technology peers across product, engineering, and test to provide a cross-functional suite of services
  • Act as a mentor, coach, and role model to TRAM colleagues, driving best practise, continual improvement, and personal / team development.
  • Work closely with the with other Labs/Centre's of Excellence to drive collaboration, best practice, and adherence to and adoption of long-term strategy

As an Engineering Lead you'll own and lead operational activity including helping to trouble shoot / recover struggling change initiatives.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Previous and proven experience in senior engineering delivery roles is essential
  • Expertise with delivering and supporting high-availability, high-performance systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience
  • An ever-developing knowledge of, and interest in, engineering principles, practices, and technologies
  • Be a strong collaborator and communicator, able to work and influence across functional boundaries
  • Domain knowledge of Insurance channels and platforms

You'll also receive a package that includes: a competitive base salary dependent on location.

Base salary: £70,784 - £88, 840 (other locations), £81, 928 - £102, 410 (London only); plus a discretionary variable bonus; cash sum of 4% which you can exchange for a variety of benefits (or simply take the cash), private medical insurance; pension where we'll give up to a max of 15%; access to share plans and 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.
