Overview
 

The Media Services Supervisors work a fortnightly shift pattern, including two weekends a month. They have responsibility for four teams of Ingest operators, with each team headed by a lead, working a 24/7 shift pattern. The Supervisor is responsible for the efficient day to day running of the Media Services teams, ensuring that all tasks are carried out correctly. They act as a point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders, working with the Manager to agree workflows, and to ensure that all teams adhere to working agreements. They are responsible for the training and development of team members, creating and documenting workflows, providing accurate metrics and leading projects. It is the Supervisor's responsibility to arrange cover for absence, projects and leave as needed. They are required to take on other duties as set out by the manager and to cover for the manager as required.


Responsibilities
 

  • Responsible for leading, motivating and managing a team of shift Media Services Operators ensuring their continued growth and development through regular performance management, goal setting and reviews
  • Responsible for shift management, providing first line support to the Media Services Team
  • Responsible for ensuring the team are fully trained, and comprehensively understand and follow all Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure that SOP’s are regularly reviewed and kept up to date, proactively assess and look for improvements to operating procedures. 
  • Responsibility for the accurate and timely ingest of all content for transmission
  • In conjunction with the Department Manager, manage exceptions planning regarding late delivery, late requests and Fast Track requirements as necessary
  • Responsibility for accurate metadata entry into all applications used in the facility
  • Active contribution to procedure change, development and implementation
  • Responsible for raising technical issues with Engineering and ensuring all details are captured, logged and followed up
  • Proactively manage and investigate any air-affecting incidents, escalating to and resolving with the relevant departments
  • Carry out personnel resourcing and rostering as a regular routine and flag any increased rostering requirements based on volume and business requirements to the Department Manager.
  • Responsible for keeping the operational area in good order
  • Attending meetings as and when required, recording key elements and sharing any action points with the relevant team members
  • Effectively contribute to the delivery of high profile projects e.g. channel and language launches and migrations, ensuring projects are delivered on time and risks and issues highlighted
  • Ensure project information is effectively communicated to all team members
  • Work collaboratively with other departments within the supply chain, i.e. MAM, Content & Language Operations, Production Management, Post Production and Transmission ensuring working relationships and communication are of the highest professional standards
  • Ensures that all aspects of relevant regulator Codes of Practice relating to the channels are adhered to across multiple local regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to collaborate in best working practices with various departments and hubs/markets 
  • Raising issues in a comprehensive and diplomatic manner with various departments and hubs/markets
  • In conjunction with the Senior Media Services Manager, proactively manage under-performance to quickly eliminate performance issues
  • Providing cover for breaks as required
  • Producing comprehensive metrics and reporting as required. 


Qualifications
 

  • Proven track record in leading successful teams in a broadcast environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, encourage and develop a Team
  • A strong, professional work ethic ensuring a Team are fully trained and reaches full potential
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and transfer that approach to the Team
  • A thorough operational knowledge of ingest, QC processes and technical standards
  • A solid working  knowledge of transmission and edit technologies
  • A thorough operational knowledge of broadcast equipment including vectorscopes, waveforms, Mediaflex, Mediator, Cloud storage and playout
  • Strong understanding of video and audio theory, SD/HD/UHD signals
  • Robust knowledge and understanding of Engineering processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrable experience in quality assessment and quality control of incoming content, both video and audio.
  • Knowledge of OFCOM licencing requirements is essential and an understanding of BLM, CvDM, BAI, TECOM and RTUK rules and regulations are an advantage
