A Lab is a co-located team who work together on key projects to deliver value at pace by designing services that people find useful, easy and engaging to use. Typically, a Lab has a strong focus on complex problem solving in an agile environment where engineers are free to experiment and create innovative products which will transform the way our customers engage with us.

Run Ahead is an experimental team working in the consumer domain. It was formed to design transformational human experiences based on emerging technical capabilities. Run Ahead is often operating in amorphous problem space, and so the service designer needs to be able to help shape design briefs and then deliver good design work alongside a highly skilled set of practitioners.

About the role:

The role is for an all-rounded designer with service design skills that will work collaboratively with colleagues across business areas and functions.

Service Designers often have diverse backgrounds, but what unites them is the ability to be empathetic, to be collaborative, to be creative facilitators, to communicate visually, to engage through storytelling, to be strategic, and to coach and build capability in others.

Here's where you'll make a difference:

  • Design customer and colleague products, journeys and features.
  • Facilitate a design process that incorporates found and primary research, technical and business input, and multiple rounds of iteration.
  • Represent the work within and outside of the team, bringing it to life and providing context.
  • Introduce new thinking into the Run Ahead team, helping move thinking on.
  • Lead and feed into a progressive way of working that inspires others.
  • Add to an encouraging and progressive team vibe.

What we need from you:

  • Experienced in concept creation; zero based design
  • Ability to flex between micro design details and macro strategic considerations, helping the team and others spot connections
  • Comfort excelling in an agile working environment
  • Experience facilitating creative workshops
  • History of delivering to agreed timescales and costs
  • Previous experience mapping out Customer journeys for new offerings or changes to existing services
  • Successful co-creation with partner teams and stakeholders
  • Use of progressive tooling, including Figma, JIRA, confluence
