Ship Standard Policy Lead – Emission Reduction and Air Quality

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) are currently in search of two new Ship Standard Policy Leads to proactively manage and develop UK policy regulations and guidance within the Directorate of UK Maritime Services (UKMS). You will be the main focal point across the MCA, developing, negotiating and maintaining UK policies and regulations relating to a wide range of safety and environmental issues associated with ships and vessels of all sizes, from small pleasure vessels to the largest international trading ships.

You will provide great value to the MCA within this position, ensuring that the agency has an informed and balanced approach that meets the government’s obligations, industry needs and public expectations.

Role Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Leading the negotiation, development, implementation and management of policy and regulation.
• Represent the MCA and/or the UK at internal, external and international meetings/working groups.
• Providing a focal point role for industry and colleagues on matters regarding UK policy.
• Acting as policy lead for relevant international and domestic regulations.
• Supporting the UKMS contribution to the MCA business plan activities and objectives.
• Ensuring the MCAs vision and values are upheld in all aspects of work.

Responsibilities

About You

To thrive in this role, you will demonstrate a good knowledge of regulatory frameworks in the maritime sector. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply scientific and technical knowledge within your role, drawing on your relevant experience in either maritime engineering, naval architecture, maritime operations, risk/safety engineering or previous seafaring experience.

We would love to hear from individual’s adept at building strong working relationships, demonstrating both first class written and oral communication qualities. This will ideally be coupled with a proven experience in drafting high standard submissions and other policy documents for key stakeholders. This role will expect applicants to possess well developed IT skills, particularly the use of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held week commencing 23rd August 2021.
