Support of the Enforcement of the Merchant Shipping Act and other Maritime legislation. Ensures that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is effective in regulating UK ships and seafarers and foreign vessels when in UK waters by investigating and when appropriate prosecuting offenders in support of MCA aims.

As an Assistant Investigator you will support the Regulatory Compliance Investigations Team assisting with the investigation of significant breaches committed against maritime legislation, including the prosecution of offenders when such action has been authorised. To maintain and where necessary raise the profile of the MCA as the UK Maritime Authority and to assist the Maritime Investigations Manager in meeting the overall aims of the department.
 

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

· Assisting in investigations by undertaking a wide range of tasks under the direction of supervisor/ line manager
· Assisting in interviewing of suspects under caution
· Assisting in the completion of criminal files of evidence by undertaking allocated tasks
· Providing assistance to the Regulatory Compliance Investigations Team by obtaining statements of evidence for criminal investigation
· Assisting in the examination, preservation and continuity of evidence and exhibits such as CCTV recovered during an investigation in accordance with procedure
· Submitting accurate reports into intelligence systems
· Liaising with a range of agencies in relation to the gathering of evidence
· Ensuring material is identified and recorded in accordance with CPIA
· Discussing cases with supervisors and provide information to assist in disposal decisions
· Attending Court and give evidence as require
· Contributing as necessary to Enforcement Policy and Procedures

About you

You will come to us with excellent investigative skills, you will be looking for a role where you can focus your interest within the Maritime industry.

You will be a team player who has fantastic interpersonal skills. Your confident approach allows you to deal with challenging situations, where you tailor your approach according to your audience.

You are organised and can demonstrate good IT skills which enable you to navigate Microsoft office, particularly Excel and MS Teams. You can effectively present complex information in a variety of ways, verbally and electronically to suit the audience. You will have the ability to work in a demanding and complex environment with changing priorities.

• Experience of Microsoft Office Skills

Interviews will likely be held 12th & 13th August 2021.

This interview will be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
