Head of Operations and Services

Could you lead the operations and services of a small charity, at the heart of the voluntary sector, dedicated to increasing the positive impact of charities through them being well-governed and led?

Background

The Association of Chairs is a membership organisation supporting Chairs and Vice Chairs of charities and social enterprises in England and Wales. Chairs come from a very wide variety of backgrounds, but very few get support to do their role well. We launched in October 2013 to fill this gap. We support Chairs to lead good governance and run an effective trustee board and our resources and events are designed specifically with this in mind.

Appointment of a Head of Operations and Services

This post has been created in recognition that the AoC is at a pivotal stage in our development. We have achieved a great deal since our inception just 7 years ago, with our small, committed staff team and dynamic trustee board. We now pride ourselves in providing high quality services to over 900 members and over the next few years, we plan to deepen and broaden our support to Chairs and achieve a threefold growth in the number of Chairs we reach.

Reporting to the CEO, the purpose of this newly created role is to lead AoC’s operations, service delivery and development. Growing our reach, scaling up our services and extending our offer are our key priorities. You will have a key role to play in our successful growth by ensuring our operations run smoothly and by leading the development of our existing services alongside building new member services.

To be considered for this role, you must have experience and skills in the following areas;

  • Strong experience of achieving impact through leading on service delivery and development.
  • Commercial mindset & ability to generate earned income. Experience of contracting out services is a plus.
  • Genuine open, collaborative style, built on trust-based relationships.
  • Skilled at leading and developing people, with an empowering style
  • Strategic awareness, critical thinker who can generate new ideas and approaches.
  • Able to build secure organisational and process foundations, whilst retaining flexibility.
  • Experience of operating at senior team level in the not for profit sector

So if you want to make a big difference at the heart of the voluntary sector, this role could be for you. It’s a great time to join us. You’ll play a decisive role in realising our ambitions. It’s a crucial and busy role that offers great experience and development. You’ll be joining a committed team and working in a supportive environment.

Application is by CV and a covering letter which should indicate why you are interested in applying for the role and how you meet the role requirements.

We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 14th July, with shortlisting interviews taking place that week and the week after. Interviews with AoC will take place on July 26th or 27th.

AoC is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion within the recruitment process. Our recruitment organisation Eastside Primetimers works to ensure that their recruitment approach is fully inclusive and reaches a diverse range of potential candidates. We warmly welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
