Job description

The Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the Department for Transport and part of the Civil Service. It employs approximately 1,500 staff and over 3,500 volunteers across the UK. The MCA prevents the loss of life at sea and on the coast of the UK. People rely on our 24-hour emergency service 365-days a year, whilst our surveyors operate to ensure high standards of safety for ships and seafarers around the globe. Here at the MCA we have an exciting opportunity a HR Business Partner to join our professional and dedicated team, you will be responsible for working closely with MCA leaders to achieve shared organisational objectives.
 

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Proactively work with the directors and their senior leadership teams to fully understand current and future business performance issues.

• Work with the HR leadership team to develop innovative, timely, inclusive and cost-effective workforce plans in support of an ambitious growth strategy.

• Lead transformation programmes coaching senior managers in inclusive organisational design and development.

• Interpretation of management information, providing recommendations to Directors which ensure the development of inclusive people strategies.

• Design and implement an Inclusion Strategy that makes lasting and impactful change.

• Ensure that all senior leaders understand and are fully engaged with Inclusive Talent Management strategies.

• Develop meaningful partnerships with all key business stakeholders.

• Champion a culture of continuous improvement and high performance at pace across the MCA.

• Collaborate with key stakeholders across DFT and represent the interests of the MCA in appropriate forums.

• Coach and mentor a variety of strategic HR cross-functional workstreams.

• Participate in the development and execution of strategic HR plans and ensure close alignment to MCA strategic priorities.

You have the ability to inspire, engage and encourage ideas from a diverse range of partners. You are someone who can gain an understanding of a broad range of information and formulate this into a strategic picture.

Qualifications

Be Chartered Member CIPD or be ready to qualify through experience assessment or demonstrate equivalent HR work experience.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.

Its responsibilities include coordinating search and rescue (SAR) on the coastline and at sea through His Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG), ensuring that ships meet international and UK safety standards, monitoring and preventing coastal water pollution and testing and issuing Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (licences) for ships' officers and crew to STCW requirements The organisation is led by Virginia McVea, its Chief Executive, who took up post in February 2023.The MCA are chiefly responsible for the syllabus and national training standards issued by the Merchant Navy Training Board (based at the UK Chamber of Shipping).
