We are looking for a Data and Reporting Analyst to facilitate data-driven decision making here at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Job description

The UK Ship Register (UKSR) is part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and works to promote the UK flag worldwide to Quality Owners with Quality Ships. Within the UKSR the Registry of Shipping & Seamen (RSS) in Cardiff is responsible for providing front-line Customer Service and the issuing of Ships Registration and Seafarers Documentation.

We will look to you to deliver data visualisation and analysis across a wide range of projects and teams to support data-driven decision making and performance improvements in the UKSR. You will create best practice within the RSS team for data analysis through the delivery of high-quality analysis and reporting, using data to measure quality and performance of the UKSR system and processes.
 

Responsibilities

You will:
• use a range of statistical and analytical methods to deliver analytical projects and explore new data and opportunities to solve problems and facilitate data-driven decision making.
• deliver regular reports and dashboards to key partner organisations to support their legal and operational commitments
• visualise data to tell compelling and actionable stories relevant to organisational goals and to continually improve the UKSR customer journey and service and to support change.
• work with other data analysts across MCA to identify and share best practice in delivering high quality analysis and reporting
• work with challenging stakeholders to effectively identify and clarify the scope and requirements of analytical work
• understand the role and how it interacts with other relevant MCA departments and teams (e.g. Key Account Managers, UKSR and IT) to ensure that the customer remains at the heart of any action taken or decisions made
• actively support other colleagues and team members to meet the needs of the business in line with the Civil Service Code and MCA Values (of Safety, Professionalism, Trust and Respect) remaining committed to the vision of the organisation at all times

The Registry is open to customers at the following times:

Mon - Fri 7.30am - 6.00pm
Sat - Sun 9.00am - 4.00pm

This role will be required:
Mon - Fri 9.00am - 5.00pm

Some travel to the MCA HQ in Southampton will be required.

Essential minimum criteria

• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex analysis to non-specialists.
• Experience in working with complex data sets and knowledge of analytical methods.
• Experience of creating data visualisation reports.
• Effective written and spoken communication at all levels.

Interview/assessment will be held w/c 22nd February 2021.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.
