Job description

We have four policy roles, all placed within our Energy, Technology & Innovation (ETI) directorate. ETI leads work to ensure we all have a safe, clean and sustainable transport system today and in the future.

Our main aim is to support the Governments ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through delivering policy that will support the UK's transport sector. The objective is to improve air quality ensuring the sector and its supporting infrastructure is suitably adapted to withstand the effects of climate change and promoting world leadership in the industry around electric, connected and autonomous vehicles.

You will have the opportunity to develop new policies, seeking out and analysing evidence to pull out key trends to support new initiatives. You will also be managing work streams, representing the department internally and externally and communicating key points of information to stakeholders.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills, work on challenging projects and advance your career, as you will gain valuable working experience and professional development in a dynamic and high-profile environment.

There will be a requirement for some travel and travel to and from our central offices in the future in line with our return to work.
 

Responsibilities

We are recruiting for four roles. The responsibilities for each role are set out in the role profile attached. The responsibilities are reflective of each role, however the focus of the work will consist of:

Developing and supporting the implementation of policies.
Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders
Preparing and contributing to briefings and advice for ministers.
Managing short term policy projects

Our office will be moving from Ashdown House - our home in Hastings for a considerable number of years - and moving to a new, more modern and flexible office space at One Priory Square, in the town centre, on a 10-year lease.
This move will enable us to create a brilliant, more inclusive workspace for everyone – with much improved accessibility and much better public transport links. And, one that’s in line with the standards of the wider modernisation programme.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

For your CV and personal statement, please provide detailed evidence of your experience of the following:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including, for example, attention to detail for written briefings.
• Ability to think strategically, creatively and in an innovative manner, to make links with work and departmental objectives
• Effective working with data and analysis, and the ability to reach conclusions and recommendations when there is a range of data, conflicting evidence or information gaps.
• Strong stakeholder management skills to effectively establish relationships and collaborate with both internal colleagues and stakeholders across Government and with delivery partners and industry.

After submission of the first stage of your application you will be invited to complete a Civil Service Judgement test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the final stage of the application.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held w/c 4th January and 11th January 2021.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. There may be occasions when these dates will change. You will be provided with sufficient notice of the confirmed dates.

The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment could include:

• an interview and a policy exercise
