Are you a financial crime risk or legal professional looking for your next career move? This is a new opportunity to join our Global Financial Crime Risk (FCR) Governance team.

The FCR division reports to the Chief Risk Officer and supports Macquarie businesses, driving a high and consistent level of compliance and financial crime risk management, consistent with applicable national and international best practices and Macquarie’s core principles. FCR is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable anti-money laundering (AML), counter terrorist financing (CTF), anti-bribery & corruption (AB&C) and economic sanctions requirements in all jurisdictions in which Macquarie operates.

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced financial crime risk or legal professional to be based in Sydney and focused on assisting to enhance, implement and maintain Macquarie’s Global FCR Program Material which includes, among other things, global policies, methodologies, standards and written guidance. Providing support and advice to the FCR advisory teams and other internal stakeholders on Global FCR Program Material will be a key responsibility, as well as drafting guidance to support and accompany this advice where necessary.

You will play a role in actively engaging in regulatory change in Australia and other key jurisdictions in which Macquarie operates, and ensure Macquarie is well placed to respond to changes in regulations and laws. This may include representing Macquarie at relevant industry forums within Australia.

To succeed in this role, you will have superior written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills, experience working at or with a large international financial institution and, ideally, project management experience involving complex matters with various stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. You will have a strong knowledge of AML/CTF, AB&C and economic sanctions legislation and regulation in Australia, understanding and awareness of international best practice related to financial crime risk management and a good understanding of economic sanctions and AB&C laws, regulations and principles. Your outstanding collaboration and influencing skills will be used to drive team outcomes and maintain high employee and stakeholder engagement.

Working at Macquarie

We believe in providing a positive environment for all our staff that is innovative and inspiring. For our female staff, Macquarie’s senior leaders are actively involved in increasing the representation of females in management positions.  In June 2014, we launched a mentoring programme for females, with the following two objectives:

  • Address female retention rates at Senior Manager level and improve our diverse pipeline of talent;
  • Engage female Senior Managers by providing tools and support around their personal development;

The programme pairs up Senior Managers with Directors, who meet on a monthly basis, and are supported by active group sessions (bi-monthly) with an external facilitator.

We select some of the brightest minds to help us in solving complex challenges for our clients.  We recognise that recruiting talent from varied backgrounds is essential to improving our understanding of the marketplace, and enhancing creativity and problem-solving capabilities in our businesses.

Because of this, our commitment to you is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or cultural background.

We make this commitment not only because it is the right thing to do but it opens up a world of opportunity, securing the future of our people, our success and our business
