If so, there are 2 exciting opportunities for you to join the Department for Transport’s digital publishing team. These roles are both 12 month fixed-term appointments. Job description

We want to hear from you if you:
• thrive in a dynamic, ever-changing working environment
• have experience of writing for the web and managing content on a large website to tight deadlines

It will help if you have experience of:
• writing accessible, user-focused content
• using markdown or HTML
• tagging PDF files for accessibility or creating accessible alternatives

As our GOV.UK content designer, you will ensure that all transport content on GOV.UK:
• is current and correct
• is easy to find and easy to read
• complies with style and editorial guidelines
• meets the needs of both users and the government
 

Responsibilities

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• drafting new transport content for GOV.UK
• rewriting existing transport content on GOV.UK to ensure it is in plain English and meets user and business needs
• auditing, reviewing and improving existing transport content on GOV.UK
• liaising and negotiating with teams across DfT and other government departments to ensure that new and updated content is factually correct and approved for publishing
• preparing accessible and web optimised PDF and open document format files
• monitoring, reporting on and improving the performance of GOV.UK content
• working with GDS and stakeholders to develop and implement new online services
• working with GDS, DfT and transport agency staff to ensure that publishing deadlines are met

About you

You should have an interest in all aspects of web content design. You will need extensive practical experience in writing, publishing, updating and managing website content. The right candidate should be a creative thinker with the ability to look for new and improved ways of working. For this role you will be working with a range of colleagues, but you will also need to be a self-starter who can work well on your own. You will need to build and develop relationships with other teams, including staff across the department, people working in other government departments and external suppliers.

Interviews/assessments are likely to be held between 20/04/2020 and 27/04/2020 at Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 4DR.

Important information

This post is offered on a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) basis to complete a finite piece of work.
Permanent Civil Servants will not be expected to change their employment status from permanent to fixed term appointment. OGD applicants will be appointed on inward loan and subject to the terms of the agreed inward loan agreement.
