SEN Teaching Assistant with Specialism in BSL
We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant who can support a Hearing Impaired Year 6 pupil on a 1:1 basis. This is a temporary role up until the pupil leaves in July 2020. The post is for 27 hours per week, working every day of the week during term time.
As with other roles in the school, this post involves regular contact with children and staff and therefore the successful candidate needs to be able to relate well to children and adults alike. A sense of humour is a MUST, as well as a ‘common-sense’ approach to the job and the ability to show initiative and adapt to any situation that may arise. Ideally, in applying for this post you will have:
- A clear understanding of what it means to be ‘deaf aware’ and a strong sense of the importance of inclusion
- British Sign Language Level 2; (or at least Level 1 and a willingness to train to Level 2)
- The skills required to maintain and check specialist equipment, including hearing aids (or happy to acquire these)
- Previous experience of working with children; awareness/experience of pre and post teaching
- Some experience of providing interventions to develop motor skills is desirable
- High standards of work ethic and self-motivation
- Good literacy and mathematical skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- The ability to form positive relationships with children and adults
- High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards & team work

Information about the school
We are a Church of England Aided Junior school, situated in the heart of Whitstable. Each year we admit 48 children from our local infant feeder schools and we have six classes. Locally we are known as 'The Endowed' and we describe ourselves as an old school with a young heart.
