Lecturer – Teacher Training and Education

Salary: £21,544.17 - £24,039.07pa pro rata  (£32,784.60 - £36,581.19 pa FTE), depending on experience

We are seeking an experienced teacher and teacher trainer to join our established and high performing Initial Teacher Training team.

Lecturer with Course Director responsibilities 0.6
The successful candidate will be required to engage with trainees across a range of ITT programmes from level 3 to 6 and demonstrate an excellent ability to develop and promote high quality teaching and learning. This role primarily involves overseeing the AET/CET/DET courses, including course leadership, teaching and assessing on those programmes, with some teaching and assessment on our Cert. Ed. and PGCE courses.

The role will involve liaising with; internal and external candidates for the courses, placement providers or employers, course teams, external examiners, and a range of other professionals. The post holder should be willing to contribute to the dissemination of best practice within the institution and across the region.

Innovation Coach 0.4
There is also a 0.4 post available as an Innovation Coach. Innovation Coaches support the teaching practice of staff within the College, delivering high quality continuous professional learning and sharing best practice across the institution. They are responsible for developing the culture of the institution, supporting staff with developing their teaching practise and leading on innovation within the institution – for example with the teaching and learning or digital strategy.

Successful applicants could combine the 0.6 Lecturer with Course Director responsibilities and the 0.4 Innovation Coach post to create a full time post.

Role Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess on a range of programmes including Award in Education and Training (AET), Certificate in Education and Training (CET), Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) or Diploma in Education (DET), Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning, and any other associated degree qualifications as required by the Head of Department. These are delivered through both University of Suffolk and other Awarding Bodies.
  • Act as personal and academic tutor to initial teacher training students.
  • Participate in the development of existing and new course programmes and to assume responsibility for areas of work as appropriate. This includes development of the current curriculum for re-approval / revalidation and embedding best practice across the sector and advice from the External Examiner.
  • Assist with the design and delivery of high quality continuous professional learning and sharing best practice across the institution.
  • Coaching staff to develop their teaching practise.

Required qualifications, skills and experience

  • A degree or equivalent level of qualification.
  • Teaching qualification and Professional Status (QTLS/QTS).
  • Maths and English qualifications at level 2 minimum.
  • Sound understanding of the requirement of teachers, trainers and tutors in the sector.
  • Sound understanding of relevant inspection frameworks.
  • An understanding of teacher training qualifications at all levels.
  • Ability to drive forward the wider application of IT in teaching and training.
  • Sound organisational, administrative and IT skills.
  • Commitment to sharing good practice and to continuous improvement of teaching and learning skills.
  • Relevant professional experience within education and training, particularly within initial teacher education.
  • Trained lesson observer with experience of observing and developing teaching and learning.
