Victoria Education Centre encompasses a day school and a residential setting based in Poole Dorset offering specialised, high quality care and therapy for young disabled people from 3-25 years old. All of our residents / students have physical disabilities or complex medical conditions and many have additional needs including communication difficulties, learning difficulties and sensory impairments.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Occupational Therapist to join our team at Victoria Education Centre.  The role is 28 hours per week, term time only, on a permanent contract.

Role Requirements

  1. To be part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) delivering a high quality Occupational Therapy Service to Students/Service Users with highly specialist needs.
  1. To be responsible for undertaking assessments of new and existing Students/Service Users, implement and evaluate treatment and intervention plans.
  1. To undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention programmes. To include the use and positioning of assistive devices, implementation of specialist support techniques, assessment and provision of specialist equipment and adaptations.
  1. To undertake the assessment, planning of treatment, intervention and evaluation for students with a sensory need using sensory integration principles
  1. Liaise with Health and Social Care professionals and other related statutory, private and voluntary organisations providing written reports, recommendations and referrals when necessary within the bounds of Livability policies.
  1. Lead in the planning, development and evaluation of the service and contribute to the annual department development plan in consultation with the whole department.
  1. To be accountable for own professional actions, working within codes of practice, professional guidelines and policies. Plan own caseload’s therapy programme in line with short and long term goals, contributing to evidence based practice and outcome measures.  Ensuring that data is collected as required showing clinical effectiveness.
  1. To plan, lead and supervise Occupational Therapy sessions for individual sessions and groups of students/service users.
  1. To keep up-to-date written student records and personal clinical observations. Communicating sensitive information in an understandable form to students, parents, carers and colleagues on a daily basis and attending meetings as required.
  1. To provide clinical support for less experienced OT support staff.
  1. Contribute to policies and procedures to ensure the effective delivery of the O.T. service in accordance with best practise, legal framework and quality.
  1. To be responsible for and able to evidence own personal and professional development by undertaking the relevant training, attending meetings, conferences and events ensuring that you are updated in all matters relevant to the role in-line with your agreed Personal Development Plan.
  1. To carry out additional duties and tasks that may be required within the range of the responsibilities of the post.
