Do I have to include furlough on my CV?

I was furloughed in March and now been made redundant due to the lack of work coming in caused by the pandemic. Do I have to state on my CV that I was on furlough and the time period?

This week Emma Alkirwi of CV experts The CV Guru explains why furlough still counts as employment on your CV as far as future employers are concerned.

I was furloughed in March and now been made redundant due to the lack of work coming in caused by the pandemic. Do I have to state on my CV that I was on furlough and the time period?

Sorry to hear about your redundancy. No there is no need to state you were furloughed in your CV. Just have the date of when you were last employed, so when you were made redundant from (month and year are fine). This keeps it all factual as you were receiving pay from your employer up to that date so still employed. When your new employer is obtaining a reference this will also match. You can acknowledge in your cover letter that you are now seeking work due to redundancy and that can cover off any questions the recruiter will have about why you left the role.

I hope that helps and good luck with your job search!
